AN ELEGANT WEDDING

AT WELLS CATHEDRAL

& THE BISHOPS PALACE

GEMMA + TOM

“Claire, they are WONDERFUL. I love the hues across all the photos, there are so many gorgeous photos. More than I could have hoped for. Thank you for everything you captured for us and enabling us to relive the memories.”

Gemma and Tom’s wedding was the kind that stays with you, elegant, emotional, and completely timeless. Set between the grandeur of Wells Cathedral and the romantic gardens of The Bishop’s Palace, it was a day steeped in history and heart.

I was actually lucky enough this time to be part of Gemma’s dress journey, something I fels so lucky to be a part of and don’t often get to experience. I joined her at The Mews when she was trying on dresses, and when she stepped into that Margaux Tardits piece, a French designer who no longer creates wedding dresses, we just knew she’d found something special. The intricate silk piping and delicate structure were the perfect match for the scale and artistry of the cathedral. Seeing it all come to life on the wedding day was so moving. Her look was finished with a custom Rebecca Anne veil that mirrored the gown’s refined simplicity.

The ceremony, beautifully led by Reverend Timothy Stevens (Canon Precentor of Wells Cathedral), felt otherworldly. As the grand organ began to play and the choir’s voices filled the Quire, the whole space shifted, the kind of moment where time seems to hold its breath. Gemma walked arm in arm with her dad toward Tom, and you could feel the emotion ripple through the cathedral.

Gemma and Tom’s absolutely gorgeous cocker spaniel, Merlin, was of course part of the day too. He was so excited to see them, tail wagging the whole time and happily posed for a few photos in the Bishop’s Palace Chapel after their portraits.

True to Somerset form, a little rain made an appearance, but no one minded. We slipped between showers in the palace gardens, taking advantage of the soft light and stone textures that make this venue so beautiful. Alice Vine’s florals added a romantic, natural touch, loose, organic arrangements that played perfectly against the cathedral’s architecture.

Guests sipped espresso martinis, laughed through heartfelt speeches, and danced late into the night beneath the palace’s vaulted ceilings. One of my favourite touches was the live illustrations by Eleanor Auld, delicate watercolours of guests, each one a little work of art and the loveliest keepsake.

Later, Gemma changed into a second look by The Fall, paired with Loeffler Randall heels, a relaxed, elegant way to end the night. It felt like the perfect balance of tradition and modern style, a day that truly reflected them.

This one will always stand out to me, not just for the beauty of the setting, but for how personal it all felt. Somerset weddings have this grounded magic about them, and Gemma and Tom’s day captured that effortlessly.
